The cluster of severe pneumonia cases caused by a novel coronavirus first reported in Wuhan, China in December of 2019 has now circled the globe. To date, millions of cases have been reported and the number of cases in the USA as well as worldwide are increasing at an alarming rate. The cause of these infections was shortly identified as a novel of coronavirus similar to the SARS coronavirus that emerged in 2003. Although similar to SARS this new virus has been identified as a novel, never reported virus now called SARS-CoV-2. This virus causes a severe acute respiratory syndrome in some patients and this disease has been named COVID-19 (coronavirus disease-2019). Unfortunately, this virus is capable of very efficient person-to-person transmission and was declared a pandemic by March of 2020. The alarming spread of this infection in the USA has had a dramatic adverse impact on dental practice. This program will provide dental providers with the latest information on the epidemiology, testing, treatment and management of COVID-19. The latest COVID-19 vaccines and vaccination strategies will be discussed. Additionally, this program will provide dental providers with the latest information on the management of COVID-19 in the dental office. Paramount to controlling this pandemic are the principles of respiratory hygiene and cough etiquette and enhancements in respiratory protection that may need to be implemented. Emphasis will be placed on compliance issues and how a practical, cost effective “safe workplace” can be achieved in 2024. This course fulfills CDE requirements for infection control and requirements for annual OSHA training.

P.A.N.D.A., which stands for Prevent Abuse and Neglect through Dental Awareness, started in Missouri in 1992 to address the lack of child abuse reporting by dental professionals even though between 65-75% of all physical abuse involves injuries to the head, neck, and mouth. This course is designed to educate dentists, dental hygienists, dental assistants and others about the problems of child abuse and neglect, domestic violence, elder abuse and neglect, and human trafficking. This course aims to teach recognition of the indicators of abuse and neglect, inform about the legal and ethical responsibility in reporting and referring victims, and educate to become knowledgeable to recognize, report and refer.

Learning Objectives: 

• Upon completion of the Mid-Atlantic P.A.N.D.A. course, participants will be able to:
• Describe the background of abuse, bullying, and neglect and effects of maltreatment of children, adults, vulnerable adults, the elderly and trafficked victims.

Maryland dentists need two hours of a “Proper Prescribing and Disposal” course. This course is approved for providing the necessary two hours of instruction mandated by the Maryland State Board of Dental Examiners.  The goal of this course is to articulate and inform Maryland dental licensees about the role dental practitioners play in preventing prescription drug abuse, prescription drug addiction and ways of mitigating addiction through Prescription Drug Monitoring Programs (PDMPs).

THIS REFRESHER COURSE IS APPROPRIATE FOR PRACTITIONERS WITH PRIOR TOX TRAINING.

REQUIRED: To be eligible to enroll, you should have completed at least 6 hours of a hands-on foundational Botox course and 1 year of injection experience. This refresher course only covers theory and anatomy and does not include a hands-on treatment component. This is not a certification course. 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Participants must provide proof of completion of a minimum of 6 hours of a hands-on Botox course. (CE certificate or Authentic wall certificate supplied by educator which shows dates and CE hours earned)
